Vogue USA, better known as American Vogue, is published in the USA by Conde Nast twelve times a year. Anna Wintour (1988-current) is the Editor in Chief and the Creative Director is Grace Coddington. Strongly critiqued by critics and anti-fur activists, American Vogue has continued to lead the American fashion magazine market with imagery and advertising, using such diverse photographers as Irving Penn, Raymond Meier, Steven Meisel, Arthur Elgort, Mario Testino, Patrick Demarchelier, Craig McDean, Steven Klein, and the team Mert Alas & Marcus Piggot. Vogue enjoys a very large readership in the US and abroad. It is the standard by which all other fashion magazines, including international, are judged. All of the inside photo editorials are original at print time, though often reprinted. Diana Vreeland (1962-1971) and Grace Mirabella (1971-1988) have been past Editors. Vogue USA began publishing in 1909; however, they did not begin using photography on covers regularly until 1935. |
