Elle France is published weekly in France by Hachette Filipacchi Presse. According to the Elle website, Valerie Toranian is the Editor in Chief and Catherine Rousso is the Creative Director. Lothar Schmid, Ellen von Unwerth, Dominique Issermann, Jean-Baptiste Mondino, Phillip Dixon , and Gilles Bensimon are regular contributers. French Elle is the first of all international editions of Elle. There are currently 34 editions worldwide, but the French Elle still quietly leads in every department. Advertising, since they are in France, is average to good. French Elle is also considered to be one of the more positive womens' magazines, with intelligent and insightful articles that the other fashion magazines could well learn from. It appears Elle was created in the middle of 1940 AFTER France was invaded by Hitler's Germany. Originally published as Pour Elle and published every two weeks, it's name was changed to ELLE sometime between 1941 and 1945. For whatever reason, French Elle officially relaunched as a weekly after the war with the 25 November 1945 issue (no.0001). They have a distribution of 340,000. |
