Cosmopolitan USA is published monthly in the USA by Hearst Publishing. Kate White is the current Editor in Chief. More of a lifestyles magazine, their focus on fashion is low. Cosmopolitan first published in 1886 and began using photography on covers regularly in the 50's. Cosmo's focus has changed three times since it's inception. Originally created for affluent readers, Cosmo lost it's voice in the 50's due to a resistance to change. The social revolution was beginning to emerge in the nation, and while Cosmo did try to alter it's image, they didn't understand the "new world" of grit. It languished until the mid 60s', when Helen Gurley Brown took over as editor and turned the magazine around: through concept, circulation, and finance. Her revamping is also responsible for the world-wide expansion of Cosmopolitan. Cosmo's mantra: "Fun, fearless, female" During the feminist revolution, Cosmo was celebrated by women of all lifestyles, but it is now considered a joke and is routinely insulted as man-pleasing literature.International Sample Preview
